Welcome to the first instalment of what should well become an ongoing collection of thoughts and reflections on photography, interspersed with all manner of basics of technique and creativity.

Why do we photograph?

Is it to capture a moment, a special fleeting moment in time, a joyous event perhaps, just because we can, or perhaps because we do, maybe it’s to observe something at a deeper level, or is it just to show the rest of the world a “look at me” moment which is frantically shared via social media as quickly as possible?

The range of diversity behind why we photograph is almost limitless.
